What we collect
- Contact details: your name, WhatsApp number and (optionally) email.
- Trip details: pickup and drop-off addresses, date and time, guest and luggage counts, flight number for airport pickups, and any special requests you add.
- Payment: handled entirely by our secure payment provider. We receive confirmation that you paid and the amount — we never see or store your card number.
- Trip records: booking status history and, during a trip (and up to an hour before pickup), our chauffeur's vehicle location — used for dispatch, safety and service records. We do not track guests' phones.
- If you arrived through a referral link or code: we record which chauffeur or influencer referred you, against your WhatsApp number, so that any introductory discount is applied and the referrer is paid what they are owed. This link is kept for 12 months from your first booking.
- If you join a waiting list for a service we do not yet offer, we keep the WhatsApp number and any details you give us so we can tell you when it opens — and for nothing else.
Why we use it
Solely to provide the service: confirming and pricing your booking, assigning a chauffeur, contacting you about the trip, sending your receipt, meeting our legal and accounting obligations, and resolving disputes. We do not sell personal information or use it for third-party marketing.
Who we share it with
- Your chauffeur sees your first name, phone number, pickup and drop-off — the minimum needed to drive you.
- Our payment provider processes payments on our behalf.
- An influencer or chauffeur who referred you sees only the number of guests they introduced and what they earned — never your name, number, addresses or where you travelled.
- The hotel or guest house that booked for you, if you came to us through one of our partners. They see your first name and last initial, your trip status and an estimated arrival time, so they can be ready for you. They do not see your phone number, your email address, or anywhere you travel other than to their own premises.
- Google services are used for scheduling and maps (addresses and trip times, never your payment details).
- Authorities, if the law requires it.
How we measure the website itself
We keep a simple count of how the site is used, so we can tell when something is broken — for example, when an address will not price, or when the booking form keeps rejecting a field. This is our own system: nothing is sent to Google Analytics, Meta, or any other advertising or analytics company.
We do not use tracking cookies, and we do not record your screen or keystrokes. Each visit is given a random reference that is stored only in your browser tab and is deleted the moment you close it, so it cannot link your visits together or follow you to other websites. We do not store your IP address for this purpose.
These records deliberately contain no names, phone numbers or email addresses. Prices and distances are stored only as broad ranges. The single exception is an address that our system could not turn into a price: we keep that address so we can fix the fault, and it is entered before any personal details are typed.
If you drive for Piye
This section is about our chauffeurs rather than our guests. It covers what the Piye Driver app holds about the person using it.
- Who you are: your name, phone number and the email address you sign in with, plus which vehicle you drive and whether you own it.
- Banking details: your bank, the name on the account, the account number and type, so that we can pay you. Only you and the Piye office can see them; the account number is shown masked everywhere except where a payment is actually being made, and we are notified whenever it changes so a mistaken or fraudulent change is caught before money moves.
- Where you are, while you are on duty: when you tap “available”, the app shares your position so we can offer you short-notice trips nearby. It lasts up to 12 hours, or until you go offline — whichever comes first. It is never shared while you are off duty, and going offline stops it immediately.
- During a trip: your vehicle's position, so the guest can follow the car and we can answer “where is my car” without phoning you.
- Work records: the trips you were assigned, what you earned on each, and when the app was last used — for payment, dispatch and support.
Your location is used to allocate work and to show a guest their own car. It is not used to monitor you outside working hours, and it is not shared with other chauffeurs or with guests beyond the live map for their own trip.
How long we keep it
Booking and payment records are kept for 5 years to meet South African tax and financial record-keeping requirements, then deleted. Vehicle location history is retained only briefly for service-quality records and then removed. Chauffeur banking details are kept for as long as you drive for Piye and for 5 years afterwards, because they form part of the payment records the law requires us to keep. Referral links between a guest and the person who introduced them expire 12 months after that guest's first booking. Waiting-list details are deleted once the service opens, or on request at any time.
